Copying formulas over large number of rows or columns

Is there an easier way to copy a formula over a large number of rows or columns instead of simply entering the formula, left-clicking the lower right corner of the cell, and dragging down over the desired number of cells? There's got to be a shortcut for
this.
Any suggestions?

You can also double click the fill handle (lower right corner) and any formula will fill-down as far as there are data in the adjacent column.
You can enter a formula in a cell (say) A1, then tap F5 and enter a range address (say) a1:a1000 then on the home tab click Fill, down and the formula will fill the range.
