I am running win 7 with ie 8 on my dell xps m1330. This problem only occurs with ie 8 open.
I cannot double click to pull up another opened program such as Excel or Word, etc, to foreground without minimizing ie8. It opens in background, usually half
size minimized so I have to maximize page to work on it.
Also, probably connected to the problem, when I try to go back to IE8 from another program (like Word, though it happens with all programs I have tried), the toolbar shows the tabs available. However,
clicking or doubleclicking to open a certain tab or even to just pull ie8 back up doesn't work unless I pause to let that particular page load. If I try to doubleclick in the toolbar, nothing happens.

Run CHKDSK

Go to the Start button.
In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
Reboot your computer.

An error might pop up:

"Access denied as you do not have significant privileges. You have to invoke this utility in elevated mode."

If you receive the above error message, it means you are not logged into you computer as an Administrator. If that's the case, follow these steps to run the command prompt in elevated mode:

Go to theStart button.
Go to "All Programs > Accessories" and right click on "Command Prompt".
Select "Run as Administrator".
