Computer not recognizing USB wireless mouse since upgrading to 8.1

HI,
I updated my Windows 8 to 8.1 a couple of weeks ago.
Since that time, I am unable to use my wireless mouse (Logitech M305) on my laptop (HP Pavilion g6).
I have done the following to troubleshoot:
1) changed batteries in mouse
2) rebooted computer (several times!)
3) purchased new wireless mouse (also did not work)
4) plugged a wired mouse (did not work)
5) tried all USB ports on my computer
6) looked for drivers (although I don't now what that means if you have a wireless--couldn't find anything)
7) Checked with Logitech to verify compatibility (I saw Windows 8 but did not see 8.1)
8) Asked my son-in-law to check (in case I was not doing something correct!)

Because of my arthritis in my finger, the installed mouse is very difficult to use for any period of time (hence I have always used an external mouse!)

Can anyone give me any other suggestions?

However..
I recently had a problem with Win 8.1 in which the installation of 8.1 changed the drivers of my USB 3.0 ports...
Some devices would work properly, and others would not.
I reinstalled the older drivers, and things started working again.

You might try going to Device Manager and right clicking on your mouse (if there), and selecting Uninstall.
Reboot your computer and see what happens.

This basically reinstalls the drivers your mouse is using...
Hopefully you can do this with your Touchpad.
